OUR STORY

2nd Generation Family Farm

We are a friendly family run farm, who want to share our wonderful location and lifestyle with others.

This meant we began our biggest adventure yet, selling everything we had worked for to establish our own family farm, much like the ones we were privileged enough to grow up on. Two short years later,  we have a variety of animals and a great camping set up which allows us to introduce others to this amazing part of North Wales.

ABOUT PEN Y BWLCH FARM

Our journey started living in a caravan on Beth's parents sheep farm. We loved the farming life, it was in our blood. Once our first child began growing up, we knew we needed to find ourselves a real first home to raise our family.  We decided to buy our first house and found a little cottage in the Welsh mountains where we then had our second child. We rented land all around us for our sheep and horses and were really happy.

One day our postman was delivering the mail and we got chatting. We explained that we'd love to live on our own farm again and spoke about how much we missed that life. He told us that his mum was selling her farm and suggested we take a look! We were intrigued by the offer and took a drive to check out the farm. As we arrived, we were in awe of the stunning views and rolling hills that surrounded the property. The farm was beautiful with lots of sheds and plenty of land for the animals to roam. It was a glorious sunny day, we immediately fell in love with the place. This was the opportunity we had been waiting for.

After some negotiations, selling everything we owned and a lot of sleepless nights, we were able to purchase the farm and moved in with the children and the animals. We had no heating and no clean drinking water so we pushed ahead to connect a water system up to the spring and purchased some new heaters to keep us warm.  We spent many long days renovating the house and the sheds, which will continue for the next few years I’m sure!!!!

Now we spend our days tending to the animals and enjoying the peacefulness of the countryside. Our children help out on the farm and have learnt the importance of hard work and perseverance. We are so proud of the life we are building and grateful for the opportunity to live out our dreams.

We needed to fill the fields so decided to start with ponies, which are perfect for children who visit the campsite. Next, we added a donkey named Frank. He was a bit stubborn at first, but with patience and love, he became a beloved member of the family. Frank loves nothing more than taking long walks around the farm, with his best friend Poppy.

We welcomed peacocks, guinea fowl, cats, and dogs to the growing family, each animal bringing its own unique personality and charm to the farm.

A few months after moving in we were devastated by the sudden loss of their dear friend. We realized how short life really is and  wanted to honour our friend's memory by continuing to live our lives with passion and purpose. In a touching gesture, his mother gave us four sheep who were in lamb, as a way of keeping his legacy alive. We were touched by this gift and felt a deep responsibility to care for the sheep with the same love and dedication our friend had. We welcomed the new additions to the flock with open arms and were excited about the new opportunities they would bring.

We spent months preparing our farm for the new venture. We set up some bell tents and camping pitches, each with its own chiminea and picnic table. We also created a communal area with a large indoor area with a toilet and hot shower, washing up facilities and a table tennis, perfect for group gatherings. We advertised our campsite online and within a few weeks, we had our first guests. The campers loved the beautiful views and peaceful surroundings, and many of them were impressed by the farm's sustainable practices. We were thrilled to share the farm with others and enjoyed getting to know the guests.

The campsite became a popular destination for travellers and their families who were looking for that unique farm experience. We loved the sense of peace the campsite provided our customers who wanted to escape from their busy lives

Beth became fascinated with weaving and spent hours practicing and perfecting the craft. She started teaching weaving workshops to guests, sharing her knowledge and passion for the craft, incorporating the wool from the sheep into her creations. Meanwhile, Jonny continued to improve the campsite. He added more facilities, and loved watching the place get better and better.

As the business continued to grow, we decided to expand our flock of sheep. We purchased a variety of breeds to decide which type would suit the mountains ranges in which we live.

We are now thriving in our new life, and our farm and campsite has become a true reflection of our passions and values. As we look out over the rolling hills and the smiling faces of our campers, we knew that we were living the life we had always dreamed of. We had turned a small sheep farm into a thriving business that has brought joy and inspiration to others, and we are grateful for every moment of that journey.
